Episode 5

I’m pleased to be joined by Carl Dimow, a renowned Maine musician and instructor (carldimow.com). Carl tells us about his band Choro Louco (facebook.com/chorolouco) who is performing at the New Brackett Church on May 13th at 7pm, the final show in the Long Winter’s Night Concert Series brought to you by the Peaks House Concert Series, New Brackett Church and Peaks Island Radio.

In this episode, Carl and I talk about the origins of Choro music, Carl’s other musical passions, and his long-time association with Peaks Island.

Here’s how the band describes themselves:

Choro Louco performs the enormously appealing Brazilian music genre known as choro. The band was formed in 2013 by a group of accomplished musicians who have all established themselves as virtuosos in other genres – ranging from classical music and jazz, to Celtic, klezmer and Middle Eastern music. The band was performing regularly pre-pandemic and are very excited to be returning to regular performances. The band members are Carl Dimow (guitar, flute, bass flute), Nicole Rabata (flute), David Newsam (8-string guitar, mandolin) and Eric LaPerna (pandeiro, bongos).

This was a very enjoyable conversation and I learned a lot about this style of music – if you’re interested in the concert on May 13th, or just want to hear about a fascinating style of music, please take a listen.
