Peaks Island Radio is committed to providing high-quality, local radio to the Peaks Island community. We aim for diverse programming that reflects the island’s residents and culture along with eclectic music.
Our spoken word programming spans the rich variety of people and experiences of Peaks Islanders along with local information important to the island as a neighborhood of Portland. We seek volunteers who wish to provide news, events, interviews, drama, comedy, or other programming to inform and enrich our island.
Our music programming is an eclectic and broad range of artists and songs from rock ‘n’ roll to blues, soul, jazz, as well as local and independent artists. We are proudly free-form and varied because we think too much of you to put you into a box.
A revolutionary approach to radio
Many, if not most, modern radio stations are corporate or group-owned and follow a model repeated all over the country. They are programmed for the lowest common denominator and pay lip service to local information while feeding us a diet of political and celebrity gossip.
Peaks Island Radio believes there is more to radio and more to community than that. We go deep with profiles of islanders, book readings, meaningful passages and quotes, interspersed with music and public affairs programming that is informative and entertaining.
